The AAMDC’s takes pride in representing the rural municipal perspective to provincial and federal decision-makers, industry, and other stakeholders.  As part of our advocacy efforts, the AAMDC regularly develops position statements that summarize the AAMDC’s positions on key policy areas. With the recent release of the AAMDC Climate Change Advisory Committee Final Report, climate change-specific position statements are now available here. Climate change position statements include the following categories:

  • Overarching position statements
  • Carbon levy
  • Phase out of coal generated electricity
  • Supporting greater development of renewable energy and energy efficiency
  • Placing a cap on oil sands emissions of 100MT per year

AAMDC’s position statements are updated to reflect emerging issues and new resolutions and are approved by the AAMDC Board of Directors.  Current position statements are available on the AAMDC website, under the following themes:

  • Agriculture
  • Community Services
  • Climate Change
  • Energy
  • Environment
  • Health
  • Industry and Resource Development
  • Municipal Finances
  • Planning and Development
  • Transportation and Infrastructure
  • Water

The AAMDC encourages members to review the position statements and use them as a resource in local advocacy efforts. If more detail is needed on a certain issue, please search for related resolutions on the AAMDC’s Resolution Database
