Bylaw Enforcement Officer

Big Lakes County is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of Bylaw Enforcement Officer. With a population of approximately 4,103, Big Lakes County is a large rural community with five hamlets (Enilda, Faust, Grouard, Joussard and Kinuso). This position reports to the Director of Planning and Development, offers a competitive salary and full range of employee benefits.                                  

Responsibilities Include:

  • Advise the public on County Bylaw requirements and regulatory features as well as meeting with the public to resolve bylaw issues
  • Work cooperatively with the public on the interpretation of Bylaws
  • Provide information to the public concerning Bylaws
  • Respond to and investigate complaints and alleged breaches of Bylaws
  • Enforcement of Big Lakes County bylaws within the boundaries of the County
  • Conduct routine patrols to ensure compliance of Bylaws
  • Issue notices or tags and offense tickets in accordance with the Bylaws
  • Act on behalf of the County before the courts in the prosecution of charges
  • Filing of information and documentation
  • Provide assistance and support to other County departments

Education, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum of High School or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience
  • Specialized Bylaw Enforcement training would be an asset
  • Strong verbal, written communication, organizational and conflict resolution skills
  • Working knowledge of the provincial court system
  • Knowledge of proper investigative and interviewing techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and fellow staff members
  • Computer skills
  • Valid driver's license and Drivers Abstract
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Provide a Criminal Records Check (vulnerable sector)

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week
