Development/Road Technologist, Public Works

The Municipal District of Foothills No. 31, a rapidly growing rural Municipality in Southern Alberta and is inviting applications for a permanent full time Development/Road Technologist in the Public Works Department.

This position will be accountable for two primary activities within the Public Works group. The Public Works Development/Road Technologist will facilitate the construction and development process undertaken by private developers and by the Municipal District of Foothills. You will analyze and interpret engineering standards and land use regulations and applications to ensure compliance, monitoring and enforcement of land development and are accountable for the coordination and implementation of a combination of road operations programs. Operations include road use agreements, road bans, transportation permitting, road approach applications, construction signage and detour routing, inspection and reporting on road, utility and drainage infrastructure.


  • A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution with a minimum of 3 years progressive experience.
  • An understanding of the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) design guidelines as it relates to M.D. right of ways.
  • An understanding of the Manual for Unified Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) of Canada as it relates to M.D. right of ways.
  • Class 5 Drivers License.
  • The ability to be registered with Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET) as a registered CET would be considered an asset.
