ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN
(Permanent, Full-time)

Parkland County has a Permanent, Full-time position available within the Financial Planning & Reporting Department for an Accounting Technician. This position is responsible for the budget preparation process; financial reporting and analysis; capital asset maintenance; grant management and other accounting related duties. Other duties may include preparation and maintenance of the budget file, financial statements and other financial reports; a broad range of general accounting duties; utilizing the Capitalization policy; and being involved with both preparation and monitoring of grants. In addition, the Accounting Technician also acts as an accounting resource to departments within the organization. This position requires strong analytical abilities, along with good attention to detail and numerical accuracy skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Accounting from a recognized community or technical college. A Bachelor of Commerce degree would be an asset along with transfer of credits and enrollment in the CPA program is also desirable.
  • Three (3) years of general accounting experience. Payroll experience would be an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including an in-depth knowledge of Excel and Access database. Must be adept in learning financial software.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of public sector accounting standards.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Competition Number: 17-56
Rate of Pay: $63,818 to $79,757 per annum.  Please Note: Compensation for 2018 is currently under review
Hours of Work: 7 hours/day; 35 hours/week
Competition Closing Date: Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 4:30 p.m.
Benefits: Extensive benefits are offered including an option to join our Earned Day Off Program.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered and candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification level and salary.
