General Manager, Transportation & Infrastructure Services

Due to the incumbent’s retirement in May, 2018, Wheatland County is seeking a General Manager of Transportation and Infrastructure Services.

The primary function of the General Manager of Transportation and Infrastructure Services is to oversee Transportation, Roads, Bridges, Water, Wastewater, Solid Waste, Fleet/Equipment, Facilities and County Lands/Properties, and ensure compliance with current Health and Safety Acts/Regulations/practices.

The General Manager of Transportation and Infrastructure Services reports to the Chief Administrative Officer or in his/her absence to the designate. A professional position in Wheatland County, the General Manager of Transportation and Infrastructure Services leads the Transportation and Infrastructure Services Team that implements the strategic initiatives of the Department.

This position ensures the goals and objectives of the department are achieved. Additional responsibilities may include assuming the duties of Chief Administrative Officer in his/her absence as required.

The General Manager of Transportation and Infrastructure Services supervises:

  • Manager of Transportation and Infrastructure Operations
  • Manager of Transportation and Utilities
  • Transportation and Infrastructure Assistant

The successful candidate will have:

  • A recognized diploma or degree in a related field
  • ASET or APEGGA professional membership in good standing
  • Five to seven (5-7) years of progressive experience in a supervisory/management role, preferably in a rural municipality
  • Strong background of progressively more responsibility in the operation of a municipality
  • Post-secondary training in Civil Engineering or Technology, and knowledge of the Municipal Government Act
  • High degree of professionalism coupled with effective communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
  • Knowledge and skills in the development of public policy and bylaws
  • Skills as a hands-on public service professional, comfortable managing many different priorities concurrently
  • Demonstrated ability to develop credibility and effective working relationships with employees and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers Licence
