Parkland County has a Permanent, Full-time position available within the Information Services Department for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technologist II. Under the direction of the Manager, Geographic Information Systems Services, the GIS Technologist II performs data capture, update and maintenance functions to support Parkland County’s corporate GIS business functions. This position provides training and Help Desk support to County Departmental users. Advanced GIS tasks are performed to maintain the County’s enterprise GIS data and fulfill complex mapping requests from various County departments. In addition to excellent written and oral communication, this position requires strong customer service, troubleshooting, training and multi-tasking skills.


  • Post-secondary Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography or a related discipline.
  • Three to five years’ experience and fluency in ESRI products and a minimum of two years’ experience in the creation and maintenance of enterprise geodatabases.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online and GPS data collection. Experience working with imagery is considered an asset.
  • Solid understanding of cartographic principles and GPS data translation and manipulation.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Competition Number: 18-16
Rate of Pay: $62,490 - $78,110 per annum
Hours of Work: 7 hours/day; 35 hours/week
